Incoming 7th grade Parent Meeting Information

For 8th grade students - PSAT results and support!

Today, all 8th grade students reviewed their PSAT results, and were introduced to two websites that can be used for practice and data analysis of the results. Below is the presentation that was used to provide information for students regarding the PSAT. Also, below is information regarding Khan Academy a free program designed to help better prepare students for being college and career ready in their future outside of high school!

KHAN ACADEMY TUTORIAL

• Once you go to the Khan Academy practice website you will need to create a login using your Freeland Schools email account (lastnamefirstname@freelandschools.net). 
• When you sign in you can link your PSAT results by following the directions under the "Exam Results from CollegeBoard.org" box. 
• By linking your results, Khan will create a personalized plan for you to practice for the SAT test.

M-Step and PSAT update

PSAT Results

• Due to the snow day all PSAT results have not been delivered to 8th grade students. These results will be given to students the week after spring break, and students will be able to discuss the results with you at our parent teacher conferences on Thursday, April 7th from 4:30-6:30pm. 

M-Step 

• In our most recent quarterly update there was a lot of information that went out regarding the M-Step. If you would like to access the videos referenced in the quarterly update the links are below. The schedule for M-Step testing is also listed below for all 7th and 8th grade students. Remember, attendance for this testing is extremely important.

Freshman Orientation Night

Last night, our high school guidance counselors and high school administrator walked all of our 8th grade students and parents through what to expect in their Freshman year. The guidance counselors said that the meeting last night was the biggest turnout they have had in all of their years at Freeland! Thank you to all who were able to attend the Freshman Orientation night last night. If you were unable to attend, the PowerPoint presentation from last night is attached to this blog post so that you can get all the information needed about Freshman year.

Third Marking Period Reflections

Can you believe it has already been THREE weeks since Freeland Middle School has started its third marking period. There has been so much going on in Freeland, and there is no better way to tell our third marking period stories than through pictures...

Gateway Field Trip

First up... Gateway field trip to the elementary school. 30 middle school students went to the elementary school for an afternoon to work with students, teachers, and administrators on what an ideal playground would look like. The whole purpose was to gather data for their playground design project that they are now beginning to engineer on Autodesk Inventor software.

Thank you Ms. Miller, Mr. Parson, and all of the third grade teachers and students for opening up your doors to our Gateway class to make sure we know how to design a perfect elementary school playground for our engineering project!

3rd Marking Period SOAR assembly

We also had a great opportunity recently to partner with the high school and go to an assembly that promoted being open, and thinking beyond our own perceptions to make sure that we are accepting all people. Mr. Rodney Page wowed our middle school students with his inspirational message, and musical talents!

Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium

On Friday, Mr. Schwedler took a group of 8th grade students to go to the annual MLK Jr. Youth Symposium where they engaged with other student leaders in the region to learn about Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, and learn how to use his legacy to impact Freeland Middle School in a positive way!

Wow. What a great way to start our third marking period. This marking period, our building theme is PERSEVERANCE. We are in the toughest part of the year when we are all ready to be done with winter, and move onto spring. It gets tough to be at school in the midst of these tough winter months, so let's persevere together and finish this marking period strong! 

Nutritional Services Update

Dear families of Freeland Community School District,

We are pleased to announce a new Mobile Menu App that offers an easy way to view menus and nutrient information for products right from your smart phone. The new Web Menus mobile App includes: Interactive Nutritional Menus Daily menus Menu item nutrient information Menu item photos Menu item allergens (work in progress) PDF Documents Link to Online Payment Provider Link to Nutrition Services website Info section “All About School Lunch”

This is just one more step we are making in an effort to continually improve the quality of the menus we offer our students and raise the bar on the standards of our school meals. Our focus is on enhancing the diet of students with more nutritious choices here at school and by providing nutrition education that will help students form healthy habits that last a lifetime!

Key nutritional improvements that we have made include offering a variety of more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free and low-fat fluid milk with our meals. We are also reducing in the levels of sodium, saturated fat and have eliminated added trans fat. We do not supersize our meals, but instead strive to meet the nutrition needs of students within their age specific calorie requirements.
